The 2016 Lotus Elise Sport and Elise Sport 220 are the two models through which the Lotus brand will implement its plan to introduce more special edition car models. The new cars reintroduce the ‘Sport’ name to the Lotus range having been previously used on the Lotus Esprit.
As a first step the British automaker has managed to strip away 10 kg in these two new models compared to the standard Elise. Horsepower and torque details have only been released for the Lotus Elise Sport 220 with it pumping out a total of 217 hp and 250 Nm of torque. That results in a total of 237 hp per tonne and allows the Elise Sport 220 to accelerate to 96 km/h in a mere 4.2 seconds and then onto a top speed of 233 km/h.
A new sport mode has been added to both the new Elise variants. The mode improves the throttle response while also tweaking the vehicle’s slip thresholds. A new set of Bilstein sports dampers have also been installed to help improve the handling of both of the models.
